I first learned the method for writing the North Star statement at a leadership seminar weekend. It starts with a well-known formula called CPR – context, purpose, results – which is a commonly used framework for structuring presentations, reports, and, in our world as UXers, North Star statements! I teach this everywhere I go, and if you get familiar with it, you’ll be able to use it not just for your projects but also for your personal life as well.
After these parts are all written, we will move into the final part I call the “so that” statement, and this will be our North Star. You do the work on the CPR to get what’s needed to focus correctly on the work to be done, and the North Star keeps everyone aligned.
