Domain Registration

To create a website or application that runs on the internet, you must register a domain name for it. As it happens, domain registration is one of the three main services that Amazon Route 53 provides, and it does it in an intuitive way that handles most of the details for you. Still, it’s a good idea to understand how the registration process works, both for the exam and for the real world. Domain registration involves the following elements:

  • The registrant (you)
  • The registrar (Route 53, GoDaddy, etc.)
  • The registry operator (Verisign, IANA, Identity Digital, etc.)
  • The DNS provider (which is often but not always the registrar)
  • The TLD zone (operated by the TLD registry)

Domain registration involves the following steps:
