This section outlines the common types of attacks that network engineers should be prepared to defend against. In each case, there will be an explanation of the attack, followed by a corresponding set of countermeasures for that type of attack. Since this exam focuses on networking, only network-relevant threats are discussed. For instance, while phishing is a prevalent attack vector, it will not be covered here.
As in the section on threat modeling, it’s useful to explicitly define what some key terms mean, and in this case, those terms are attack and countermeasure.
