TGW route tables are the secret weapon for managing a complex AWS network infrastructure. When a TGW is created, by default, a main route table is created that covers the TGW and any attachments that are created. This is optional, however. For complex routing architectures, the TGW can have multiple route tables, each associated with a different TGW attachment if desired. In this way, it is possible to provide segmentation or connectivity between resources attached to a TGW as desired, based on the route table of the attachment.
Commonly, the TGW route table is used just like a subnet route table, providing basic routing to and from the various TGW attachments. But if needed, each different attachment could have a different route table and allow different routing decisions.
