What is an attachment in the context of TGW? From a TGW perspective, an attachment in a network construct associates some other AWS network resource with the TGW. AWS networking tends to be object-oriented in configuration, and this attachment is an object that has been built to be used as a network target for traffic coming from or destined for the attached resource via the TGW. For example, a TGW VPC attachment connects to AWS VPCs, as shown in Figure 5.2:

The preceding example shows TGW attached to three VPCs. The TGW attachment is just an object that serves to reference TGW and (in this case) VPC routing. Attachments currently come in five varieties:
