Log Ingestion and Delivery

Though different solutions and their logging capabilities are discussed in Chapter 2, VPC Traffic and Performance Monitoring, this section will focus on exporting those logs to another location for analysis by other solutions. CloudWatch Logs can be exported to an AWS S3 bucket, whether in the same AWS account or another one.

AWS Advanced Networking Specialty is not an exam that focuses on S3 in any capacity, but some knowledge of S3 as a solution is required to understand how to set up logs to export to it, and, later, how to use AWS-specific or third-party applications to consume the logs from S3.

Major restrictions for exporting from CloudWatch Logs to S3 include the following:

  • S3 buckets can be encrypted with AES-256 or server side encryption using Key Management Service (SSE-KMS) encryption only. Dual-layer SSE KMS is not supported.
