Transportation is about to get dramatically less expensive. Insiders from Sebastian Thrun, who ran the first Google autonomous vehicle team before he went on to run Udacity and an electronic flying vehicle start-up called Kitty Hawk, to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, give reasons why transportation will get cheaper. The biggest among them is that cars will no longer sit in garages most of the day but will go out and “work” on your behalf. There are other economic advantages, too. The original Stanford team told us that autonomous vehicles could save pennies while they drive because they would be more efficient than human-driven ones, even going up and down hills more efficiently, or joining caravans on freeways.
