Bill Hill told us how he escaped poverty. He grew up in Scotland in dire circumstances and later went on to invent, at Microsoft, the font-smoothing technique that is used on all computers and phones today to make text easier to read. When he was growing up, instead of playing on the streets like other kids, he went to the library. He told us that he read a new book every day and that helped him be “educated” about how the world works.
In the past few decades, the world has changed. Now, everyone has the world’s libraries at their fingertips. You can talk to a Google Home device and ask it “What is the latest in breast cancer research?”.
