Scopes show you how exposure and color should look, but you need tools to be able to make those adjustments. As you have seen, color wheels and color boards are basic tools and, along with the curves, color shapes, and masks, allow you to change the color within a part of a clip. This means that you can change part of a single color or a shape that you can draw in the clip without changing the color of the entire clip.
You have the choice of two masks: a shape mask and a color mask. I’ll explain the shape mask as it has a specific use of its own. You saw the hue and saturation curves earlier in this chapter. It is much better to use them rather than the color mask.
