In Chapter 14, Understanding the Principles of Color, you saw how to follow the three stages of color grading, starting with exposure, moving on to saturation, and, finally, color. Now that you know about the color scopes, it’s time to combine the three stages to show how the scopes give you more accuracy by offering graphs, rather than relying on your eyes, to assist with the adjustments made in the color board or color wheels.
As explained in the previous chapter, when adjusting the exposure, in your mind, think of it as grayscale rather than color. This is where the Luma Waveform monitor is most useful. The following is the Luma Waveform of the image to be corrected before any changes:
