When an enterprise has technology that is too complex, then this serves to increase the attack surface and makes the company harder to defend. CISOs often come with a strong technological background, hence tech is the natural strength of the CISO.
It is also critical to success in the role. When cybersecurity tooling has been applied thoughtfully with automation, it can serve to protect an enterprise effectively. However, too many cybersecurity tools also have downsides, such as having high costs and creating inefficiency in terms of how the team defends against attacks. Having a clear cyber strategy is a key success factor for a new CISO.
