The Aspiring CIO and CISO

Board advisory roles can be a means to an end, in that they can lead to a full board role, or they can make for rewarding post-CIO/CISO careers in themselves. When you are being considered for a board advisory role, know that it will be a subject matter expert position for the full board or a sub-board such as a risk committee or technology committee.
As an advisory board member, you do not have any voting rights. Your role exists to provide expertise and help guide the company through some strategic change or transformation. What you are valued for would include the following:
