Time for action – adding content to the Welcome page

Here's how you do it:

Suppose that you have logged in as the portal administrator. Click on Manage | Page Layout, and a window pops up with 10 pre-defined layouts.
Select the 2 Columns (70/30) layout and click on Save.
Remove the Hello World portlet if it is there.
Move the Sign in portlet to the right-hand side column.
Hover over the Add link. Click on Web Content Display – the web content display portlet is added to the left-hand side column of the page:
Click on the gear-shaped icon on the left-hand side of the portlet at the bottom.
Click on WELCOME-MESSAGE. Click on Save – the content is displayed.
Click on the wrench icon on the right-hand side of the portlet on the top.
Click on Look and Feel – a window pops up.
Uncheck Show Borders – we want to hide the top bar of the web content display portlet.
Click on Save and close the pop up window.
Refresh the page – the portlet title bar is gone.

Now sign out. Here is how the Welcome page looks:
