Now, whenever any company wants a portal to be developed, the bare minimum requirement is that the portal should represent the company. The company may have its own logo, its own colour scheme, and specific styling which it wants to be represented in its portal. Liferay Portal achieves this requirement by using themes.

Themes in Liferay can be created as hot deployable plugins and they can transform the look and feel of the entire portal. When you start the Liferay out-of-the-box server, it starts with the default look and feel. Liferay's Classic theme is responsible for this look and feel.
