In a later section of the book, we will be covering destructive filters (see Chapter 14), but in this section, we want to cover a form of filter that creates a layer; these are called live filters. Live filters are a special type of feature in Affinity Photo that has given it a substantial advantage.
So, what makes a live filter so awesome? Well, the short answer is that they can be adjusted at any time. A destructive filter (which we will talk about later in the book) is applied to a layer, and then it is not adjustable, thus you are stuck with the adjustment you made. A live filter, on the other hand, can be constantly adjusted.
Live filters are found in the Layer menu, under New Live Filters Layer (see Figure 3.17, item 1).
