In this chapter, we will look at the Layers panel (Figure 9.1), the four basic types of layers, and the behavior and creative features of what layers can offer. The use of layers in creative applications has been around for quite some time now, so you are probably pretty familiar with the general concept of layers and how they work at their basic level.
Essentially, the layers in Affinity Designer contain all of the elements of your project. There are four types of layers available – the Vector, Pixel, Mask, and Adjustment layers. Layers are arranged in the Layers panel as a stack, from top to bottom, and in your document view in the form of the viewing stacking order. In its most basic form, the set of layers in the Layers panel dictates which elements are seen in front or behind one another.
