Inkscape 0.48 Illustrator's Cookbook

When creating icon sets we often want to change their base color without affecting the overall look, so we can use them on different background colors, website themes, or in other contexts. This can easily be done with tiled clones, in a way similar to how we did in the last recipe. In this recipe we will create an icon using several objects in a group and create tiled clones of it to get different icon colors.
Usually we want to achieve various effects in our drawings with as few objects as possible so it's easier to manage the drawing. In this case though we will have to separate our icon color information from the highlights into two objects. The goal is to unset the fill of the color-bearing object so when tiling the clones of the icon we can use the Color tab to change it without affecting the highlights.
