Color palettes are sets of predefined color swatches. They are used as a way to speed up color editing process. Also there are projects that always use the same colors to make their designs consistent. Examples of those projects are the Tango and Echo icon themes, for graphical user-interfaces that are part the Freedesktop and GNOME initiatives.
Inkscape comes with several useful color palettes we can use to make our workflow easier, but there are cases when we need to create our own color palette, and this recipe will explain how.
Palettes are saved in a specific directory, according to your operating system. On Windows it is usually C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\palettes
; on Linux you will find it in your ~/.config/inkscape/palettes
directory; on Mac OS X it is ~/inkscape/palettes
