There are three major methods to consume data using Power BI: the Desktop, Service, and Mobile. Let's talk about each one in detail and what is special about each tool.
The first tool we'll discuss is the Power BI Desktop. This is a tool that you can download right to your PC or notebook; it is free to download and use. It kind of works like Excel. You create a *.pbix
file that connects to your data and displays a report. The report can, and usually does, consist of multiple tabs with a separate report on each tab. Once you create your connection and report(s), you can upload the data in the file directly to Power BI in the web. Some companies only need/want to work in the Desktop version. The *.pbix
file contains the imported data, so the file can be shared with others who can use the report, even refreshing the data if the new report recipient has access to the original datasource.
