Introduction

One of the most important components of any infrastructure is the application server. With loads of Enterprise and open source options available, it really depends on the requirements of the administrators and engineers as to which application server should be used in a particular environment. After extensive proofs of concepts, trials and errors, a decision can be reached as to which is the ideal choice.

Of all the options available, there are a few that are widely accepted and used as the primary application server in most environments. In this chapter, we will learn how Salt can help us to configure and manage some of the most widely used open source application servers.

In this chapter, we will not only learn the generic procedures to install and configure the servers, but also how Salt provides us with some extremely useful modules with which we can configure very explicit details and parameters for an application server.
