Post Production for Motion Pictures

Sound for motion pictures might be one of the most scrutinized mediums in the realm of audio. When less-than-ideal audio is present in a music composition, it can sometimes be attributed to the artist’s intentions or style (such as the intentional warble, noise, and crackle in Lo-Fi). In podcasts, the journalistic tradition of radio forgives recording quality as it may not be done in an ideal space or situation. With motion pictures, however, bad sound is almost unforgivable. Audiences will accept out-of-focus images, shaky cameras, or overexposed bright spots, but present them with a soundtrack that is out of sync, distorted, or lacking in the edit, and their immersion will be broken. Motion picture audio also falls under heavy scrutiny in the broadcast world with specific quality assurance targets that will cause a project to be rejected if they are not respected.
