Overview of this book

The book will start with a gentle introduction to the basics of Salesforce reports and dashboards. It will also explain how to access reports in depth. Then you will learn how to create and manage reports, to use Schedule Report, and create advanced report configurations. The next section talks about dashboards and will enable you to understand and compare various types of dashboard component and how you can benefit the most from each of them. Then we move on to advanced topics and explain tips and tricks related to reports and dashboards, including reporting snapshots, report parameters, and collaboration. Finally, we will discuss how to access dashboards and reports from the Salesforce1 mobile app.

Advanced Report Configuration

You learned about report types in detail in Chapter 5, Understanding Report Types. In that chapter, we introduced what a report type is and why the report type is so important for building reports. We also discussed the report type category, standard report type, custom report type and ended with a hands-on exercise to create a custom report type, extend a custom report type, and apply it by creating a new report.

In this chapter, we will onto bucket fields and custom summary formula. It is not like a report type, where you have to select a report type when creating a report, but bucket fields and custom summary formulas are optional; you may use or not use them. But in many scenarios, we can take advantage of these features to build an advanced report, such as to show the growth trends month-by-month in percentages using a custom summary formula...
