Sensor selection process


The process of sensor selection, especially when building an environmental monitoring system, is very confusing in the development phase of a product. We may be unsure about which sensor can be used and which cannot. In the industries, the design and development engineers face this problem every time they start building a project. Sensors are always difficult to control while we interface them with the processor or a controller, because they are sluggish compared to processors. Additionally, we need to take care of a lot of incoming values of sensors that come into the processors. For example, in safety critical systems, such as life support systems or baby incubators, signal conditioning circuitry and signal processing units are used to measure the sensor values precisely and take actions (such as controlling the temperature and oxygen levels for newborn babies or patients) accordingly.
