Perhaps you need to transport your subjects to another planet in your indie sci-fi flick or maybe you're just trying to create a virtual set for your high-end video podcast. Either way, you're going to have to get comfy with the Keyer. The Keyer effect has been vastly improved in FCPX and can get rid of most well-lit green screens with a click or two.
For this to work, you need to have some solid color background that can be keyed out, or made transparent. It doesn't have to be green, but that's the easiest to work with as that is the color FCPX tries to key out by default without changing any complex parameters.
In our example we have some poorly lit green screen, but it will show just how good FCPX is at removing the background, even in less than ideal circumstances such as this one.
1. Add your green-screened video clip into a timeline.
