Time for action—activating instrument filters

It's time to leave our oscillator section and move into the other sections of our instrument. You may use the sound you created recently, or use a simple sawtooth wave in a single oscillator to perform the next task. As long as you don't have a sine wave, the filter should work just fine (remember that sine waves have no harmonics to filter!):

  1. Select the ENV/LFO tab on the Triple Oscillator synth:

  2. Turn the filter on by clicking the button just to left of the name FILTER:

  3. Hold Y down on your computer's keyboard, and start turning the Cutoff knob.
  4. Listen to the effect the filter is having on the sound. Turn the Reso parameter and listen to the emphasis that is placed at the cutoff point.
  5. Change filter type to HiPass by clicking on the disclosure triangle next to the cutoff type:

  6. Use the Cutoff parameter and listen to the effect of the filter. You will hear the low frequencies of the sound being filtered starting at the cutoff point...
