Building custom product types

WooCommerce provides features for selling many types of products. The built-in features offer four main product types, as we discussed in the Setting up an e-commerce site with WooCommerce recipe. We can use a built-in simple product type for most e-commerce sites. However, many site owners are interested in using WooCommerce to sell different types of things beyond physical products. Selling event tickets, booking hotels, and selling membership plans are some of the popular uses of WooCommerce, beyond just simple products.

We have the capability to model these custom products and services as simple products. However, simple products add too much complexity in terms of coding and managing these different product/service types.
