Organizing tracks for better control

When the inspiration strikes and you start developing a musical idea, the last thing you’ll want to think about is naming and organizing your tracks. It’s okay, and actually desirable, to be messy during the process of creation. But if you start a mix session with that same messy project, you’ll soon be lost in a maze of unorganized tracks and clips.

It only takes a couple of minutes to organize a project for a mix session, and you’ll thank yourself for doing it. Not convinced? Start your stopwatch and follow these steps:

  1. Start by ordering the tracks – you can do this by clicking on a track header and dragging it up or down. Most people start a mix session with the drum tracks, so it makes sense to place them on top. Then, maybe place your percussion tracks below the drums, and then all the instruments playing chords.
