The book uses examples such as measuring humidity and temperature in an environment to help you gain hands-on project experience. You'll build on your knowledge as you create IoT projects by applying more complex sensors. Finally, you'll find out how to plan for a microcontroller-based project and troubleshoot it. By the end of this book, you'll have developed a firm foundation in electronics and practical PIC and STM32 microcontroller programming and interfacing, adding valuable skills to your professional portfolio.

Technical requirements

The hardware components that will be needed to develop the temperature-logging system are as follows:

  • 1 solderless breadboard.
  • 1 Blue Pill STM32 microcontroller board.
  • 1 ST-Link/V2 electronic interface needed for uploading the compiled code to the Blue Pill board. Bear in mind that the ST-Link/V2 requires 4 female to female jumper wires.
  • 1 DS18B20 temperature sensor module.
  • 1 ESP8266 Wi-Fi module.
  • 1 FTDI adapter board.
  • 1 LED.
  • 1 220 ohm resistor.
  • 7 male to male jumper wires.
  • 5 female to female jumper wires.
  • A 5 V power source.
