Private 5G and DDIL

AWS Private 5G is a managed service that takes advantage of the open CBRS spectrum, which is only available in the US. It is similar in architecture to AWS Outposts – indeed, it can involve AWS Outposts rack in some cases. This means significant components of the service run in an AWS region, thus necessitating clean and consistent high-speed connectivity back to a region in the US. Due to this, it is not suitable for DDIL situations.

Many DDIL scenarios can benefit from an isolated 5G network, even in the absence of good enough connectivity to support AWS Private 5G – or any backhaul at all. Solutions for these situations can be built with AWS services such as the AWS Snow family combined with a partner product that runs on top such as those available from Athonet or Federated Wireless.
