Kismet is a wireless network scanning utility. It does a great job of letting you know what wireless networks are in range as well as the channels involved and packets among other items. You can then switch to various windows to see more specific informational views as well as any alerts.

The following screenshot shows us the wireless networks in range and the information Kismet has obtained via the scans:

By select channel view, you can see the channel utilizations in the air at the moment:

You can also look at the various wireless alerts happening over the air:

By highlighting the alert, you can see a more detailed view of this particular alert. A great way to see more details if something is unclear:
