Azure Files storage is a file-sharing solution that is fully managed and enables you to share files across multiple virtual machines, applications, and cloud services. Azure Files storage is designed to store and share files such as documents, images, and application data; it uses a storage account for its data and management planes.
It is built on the industry-standard SMB 3.0 protocol and Network File System (NFS), meaning you can mount file shares (shared folders) so they appear as mapped drives and access them as local resources. Mapped drives are networked storage locations that appear as local drives on a computer, allowing users to access and manage files on remote servers as if they were on their own system.
