You may not be familiar with this attack, but while it is not as common as the other attacks, the dumpster diving attack is an interesting type of cyberattack (not a social attack) that is worth understanding.
The assault is simple but effective and is founded on the reality that many companies lack a suitable procedure for disposing of paper, which attackers take advantage of by scouring through ordinary trash to find documents containing sensitive information that was discarded in its original form.
Many companies do not give the proper attention to this type of low-tech attack. However, ignoring this type of threat is what makes this attack effective.
One of the most famous dumpster diving attacks was performed back in 1992 when Kevin Mitnick gained access to sensitive information from the trash of the Pacific Bell data center in Los Angeles.
