Windows Server 2019 overview

Windows Server 2019 (see Figure 2.1) is the latest version of the server operating system from Microsoft, as part of the Windows NT family of OSes. Announced in March 2018, it was then released for general availability some time in October 2018. Just like Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 is also based on Windows 10 code.

Consequently, since new feature releases of Windows 10 are delivered via the so-called Windows as a service format, Windows Server 2019 interestingly marks the first server build in which Microsoft intentionally skipped the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) delivery format. Among other new features that have accompanied the appearance of Windows Server 2019 are System Insights, hybrid cloud, Storage Migration Service, Storage Replica, the improved Windows Defender, support for Kubernetes, and more:
