In this chapter, we learned about the defect creation and management process. We learned to identify defects and understand their possible root causes. We also looked at the preliminary checks that should be performed before reporting defects, as well as the details that should be provided while logging the defects in the system.

We then learned to create defects in Jira by having a customized issue type, such as defect, and a customized workflow. In order to create traceability, we learned how to link defects to the relevant test cases with the help of Jira plugins, either at the test step or the test case level during the test execution phase.

In the next chapter, we will discuss how Jira issues can be used to track project requirements. We will also see ways in which Jira can be used to link requirements to test cases as requirement coverage.
