Getting started with the dataset

We are going to use the Flickr8k dataset (https://hockenmaier.cs.illinois.edu/8k-pictures.html), created by M. Hodosh, P. Young, and J. Hockenmaier, described in Framing Image Description as a Ranking Task: Data, Models and Evaluation Metrics, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, Volume 47, pages 853–899 (https://www.jair.org/index.php/jair/article/view/10833/25855). It is commonly employed in various computer vision tasks, particularly image captioning.

The Flickr8k dataset contains 8,000 images collected from the Flickr photo-sharing website. These images cover a diverse range of scenes, objects, and activities.
