Edit Like a Pro with iMovie

Before you start the assembly edit, it’s important to set your project settings so that they match what you intend to export. Most NLEs have a project settings menu included that allows you to set the resolution, frame rate, and more for your project. However, the Settings menu at the top right of the timeline in iMovie for macOS is mainly concerned with themes and automatic fades, only telling you what the project resolution already is. Therefore, it may seem like there’s no way to change the resolution and frame rate of your project, but don’t worry – there’s a workaround. In iMovie, there’s always a workaround.
iMovie matches the project resolution of the first clip placed in the project. Do be aware that the “first clip” is not necessarily the leftmost clip in the timeline. The first clip is the one that’s placed in the timeline when the timeline is blank...
